My love affair with racing bicycles began in 1985, when I was 15 years old and starting out as a bike racer. I quickly discovered
that I was just as fascinated by the machines as I was by the racing itself.
I learned to build wheels, assemble racing bicycles, tune their components, and understand the small mechanical details that could transform the way a bike felt on the road. There was something deeply satisfying about taking a collection of beautifully made parts and turning them into a complete machine—then riding that machine for mile after mile.
40 years later, that fascination has never left me. In the middle of restoring a bike I would use for l'Eroica, I discovered there are many works of art that needed restoring. That's when the idea for "RepartoVelo" became real.
Today, Reparto Velo operates from a small farm outside Bellingham, Washington, where I restore European racing bicycles from the 1970s and 1980s. These were bikes built during an era when craftsmanship, simplicity, and mechanical beauty mattered. Their components were designed not only to work exceptionally well, but to look like jewelry.
Each bicycle is carefully rebuilt with respect for its history, character, and original purpose. The goal is not simply to make an old bike look new. It is to preserve the experience these machines were created to provide. Steel frames. Friction shifting. Hand-built wheels. Polished alloy and chrome. Sometimes we just clear and overhaul, Other times, we need to take things down to bare steel, and refresh. The gruppo must fit the bike. I work with mostly Campagnolo but have been inspired to build the occasional Superbe Pro or Mavic ride if it fits.
Every bike gets all of the details it deserves down to the seat binder bolt.
No GPS. No indexing. No electronics.
Just the road, the machine, and the person riding it.
